After many years as a keen sportsman, in 2012 it was diagnosed that I needed a full left knee replacement operation at the age of 66yrs old. The operation was successful. However due to the lack of physical exercise pre-op and post-op I developed Achilles Tendinopathy (tendinitis) in the left ankle in June 2013. My consultant recommended sports physiotherapy to be administered by MARTIN HIGGINS. Martin identified the causation of the Achilles injury and through a series of recommended exercises and physiotherapy the severe pain this injury inflicted is now completely gone.
I found Martins professionalism, knowledge of sporting related injuries and sensitive approach outstanding. Thanks to Martins advice and support I am now back to a full active life.
He has helped my daughter who is a dancer, to avoid an operation on her hip, and to resolve posture issues that she has had since childhood. Martin’s approach is a breath of fresh air, and gives you hope that you can be well again. He is incredibly resourceful, and will always find ways of modifying his exercises to suit your own particular physical state and issues. He will get you out of whatever rut you are stuck in so that you can enjoy your life again!
Martin has a unique and different understanding of how the body works, resulting in dramatically effective new techniques and exercises to resolve all kinds of physical issues. His techniques have enabled me to make great progress in recovering from back pain that has ruined my life for the last 20years, and now I am starting to be able to play the sports that I love again. I have been to many osteopaths, chiropractors and physiotherapists and nothing had made a noticeable difference until I met Martin. His approach is very unusual, and the exercises at first seem strange, but they are extremely effective, and once you start to understand the principles, they put you back in control of your body. In the past I often found it difficult doing physiotherapy exercises for my back, day after day, because I could not feel that they were helping. With Martin’s exercises I can feel that they are working.
I have suffered with a bad back for the last ten years and frequently I have been in excruciating pain. During that time I have seen numerous physiotherapists, osteopaths, doctors and consultants, in fact I have lost count how many, and I can honestly say Martin has been the only person to provide me with any relief and pain-free days. He is optimistic yet realistic, knowledgeable, down-to-earth and seems to understand exactly what I am describing when I explain my pain. Not only is he an excellent physiotherapist, he is a very nice person too. A rarity these days.
I have worked closely with Martin for over a decade in managing elite sportspeople from a variety of backgrounds. His abilities to listen, clinically examine, reach a reasoned diagnosis and provide appropriate treatment plans at the highest level are outstanding. He is also renowned as a superb educator – his clarity of thought and ability to explain complex conditions in understandable ways allow his patients to commit to their treatment and achieve the best outcomes. I would have no hesitation in asking him to treat me, or members of my family
I have know Martin and the team at Prosportphysiotherapy for many years. They have proved to be excellent physiotherapists for both the non-opererative shoulder treatment as well as post-operative rehabilitation. Their expertise in high level sports rehabilitation has been particularly valuable for my patients that are amateur athletes. They have proven to get patients back to sport and activities safely and quickly after shoulder surgery. It is great to work with people with whom I can closely communicate over patient care and trust with all aspect of rehabilitation.
I’d been suffering with constant back pain for 8 months and had paid for 18 sessions with another private physio (nearly £600) who had tried ultrasound, exercises and cupuncture to get on top of my pain and I was under a specialist on the waiting list for an MRI scan. I was taking anti-inflammatories and pain killers and I was using a TENS machine and sacroiliac support belt most days to get me through. I was working reduced hours and had time signed off sick. Martin took his time to explain his approach and that it was different to techniques used by other physios. After his assessment he started me on some exercises. By the end of the session my pain was significantly reduced and after doing the exercises frequently for 24 hours, the following morning I woke up pain free for the first time in as long as I could remember. I’ve had two sessions with Martin now and I’m pain free most of the time as long as I remember to do my exercises. I would not hesitate to recommend Martin to you, I am so grateful for the recommendation made to me!
Martin is a first class physio. He’s a true professional and he’s made a real impact on the teams I’ve coached. His hands on approach is exactly what you need in professional sport.
Martin is an outstanding physio who always managed to get me back on the pitch weeks earlier than expected. He’s one of the best in the business at managing sporting injuries and I’d highly recommend him to anyone.
I have just completed 40 years working in the Football industry as a Player for 19 years and as a Financial Consultant and Licensed Agent for the PFA and currently working as a Independent Agent.
I regrettably broke my left leg towards the end of my football career and ended up with a shortening of three quarters of an inch, I have incurred problems with re-alignment and seen many physiotherapists during the last few years. It wasn't until I was introduced to Martin Higgins that the route-cause was identified and after several treatments and an in-depth straightening programme to follow I can now regularly attend the Gym and I have started jogging on soft ground again which is a huge relief to my well being.
I can't speak highly enough of Martin's Care and Professionalism and with a huge experience built up over a number of years receiving different treatments from different Physiotherapists I would single Martin out as the best by far in his field. He has helped me to alleviate the growing pain I was experiencing and he has also given me the confidence to return to active Sport.
I have played regular cricket, hockey and squash all my life. After nearly 2.5 years of trying to resolve acute pains in my hip and lower-back following an injury to my hip, Martin was literally a miracle cure i.e. within the space of 3 hours the pain was gone. I left the clinic feeling as if my life had changed. More importantly, the regular manipulation required to click my back and hip into place stopped after seeing Martin. Absolutely amazing!
Having ruptured my ACL, Martin and Prosport Physiotherapy were recommended to me by a friend who had been through the same surgery. Martin was calm and reassuring whilst helping to outline a clear way forward. With the aim to of returning to international competition in less than a year prehab and post-surgery rehab were factored into my plan. With regular appointments, Martin was able to monitor my progress, set me new challenges to keep me motivated and help reach my goal. Without Martin’s persistence I would not have been able to play again at the highest level. I’ve appreciated his friendly approach and will continue to come back with any new injuries.
